Strive to be better than your best.

One thing I've never understood about some people is how they could do something half assed and be proud of it. It's like they think "I did it, so it's awesome". Over the years we have received many Cd's of bands we've met on the road and festivals. Some were so horribly recorded and out of tune, it made you think why would you give this to someone and think it's ok?? I know with all of us it's not gonna be perfect by a long shot, but you can tell who really put their heart and soul into something and the ones who just really didn't care (you know, the CD you put in the stereo while driving, hit next, next, next ok, "Fling" out the window... Not that that's ever happened... :)
Anyway, back to my point. It's the same with film making, just because you have a nice camera and know a little final cut... you think you can go out and make a full length movie, and it be awesome? Do some more shorts... Practice, practice some more. Work on your writing, take time to find good serious actors the fit the roles and not just some friends that you throw into the film.

I know I sound negative here but I'm really tired of mediocrity, and people being pretentious because they made a film... That really wasn't that good at all. When you spit something out like Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarantino, then you have the right to act that way.
I think we as artist, need it be musicians, filmmakers, actors, need to really push the envelope on our craft and not settle for just ok. I know I have a long way to go and a lot to learn as a filmmaker, but I am learning, each time I shoot and edit I learn. I never want to stop learning, each time I want to do better than the last thing I did and learn from it.
There is so much talent here... if we really want to make a wave here, we need to push each other to not settle for just ok, but "Strive to be better than our best!"

More randomness!

1. I shot my first film when I was 10... I used an old super 8 camera and my star wars ships hung by fishing string. I scratched laser bolts onto the film with a stick pin when developed. It almost looked real, hahaha.

2. I'm a germ-a-Phoebe!

3. I just wiped the keyboard off again with a disinfectant wipe

4. Snakes scare me

5. I fell off a cliff when I was young, the only thing I broke was my arm.

6. I go to a Wal-Mart at leased once a day

7. I can make a cricket noise with my teeth

8. Listening to the Star Wars: A New Hope soundtrack still takes me to a happy place in my mind like when I was a kid

9. I would drive out of state just to eat... then come back

10. I love to make people laugh, but get pissed when laughed at

Who is Syke Mochek?

A lot of people don't know the real me. In the past I've kept to myself, not sharing a lot of information with practically everyone. Afraid of getting hurt I guess?...
Did you know I love to cook? Did you know I can't finish a book? There's allot you think ya know, but there is so much you don't.
Here are a few interesting things you probably don't know about me...

1. I grew up in a Southern Baptist Church
2. Frankenstein's Monster is my favorite monster
3. Godzilla is my 2nd
4. I get sick when I eat white meat/pork
5. My first car was a Pontiac Sunbird
6. I totaled it and nearly died, five months after I graduated High school
7. I hated God growing up, got "saved" after the wreck and played in different Christian bands until 1998... Now back to hating God, Just Kidding! Ok, maybe I am a little burned.
8. When Randy Rhoads (Guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne until '82) Died, I did a seance for his spirit to posses me so I could play like him... After that I became a singer.
9. I have no family left
10. I would rather stay home, watch a movie and cuddle than go out.
11. I still listen to Stryper

To be continued... :)
My first blog!

Ello Kiddies, welcome to the mind of Syke Mochek. I hope you find something interesting in here... :)
